The role of inhibition in shaping hippocampal memory traces
Molecular cell biologist Priyanka Rao-Ruiz aims for a better understanding how we can create so many different memories.
To remember the context of a given memory, the memory-encoding brain area activates a small population of cells called a memory trace. Priyanka Rao-Ruiz will study the contribution of inhibitory neurons, known to inhibit activity of their neighbouring cells, in the process of memory trace-formation at the molecular and cellular level.
