During my PhD at Heidelberg University in the laboratory of Ana Oliveira, I investigated how epigenetic players and transcription factors contribute to memory formation, memory persistence and memory suppression.
Using state-of-the-art molecular and cellular approaches and engram tagging techniques in combination with behavioural read-outs in mice, I found that DNA methylation is crucial for memory processes and facilitates system consolidation.
My PhD research was focused on activity-regulated processes in the nucleus. During my postdoctoral stay, I want to understand how epigenetic regulation influences the synapse and how bi-directional feedback mechanisms between synapses and the cell nucleus translate into memory function. For this purpose, I joined the Molecular Engram and Memory Circuits Teams led by Priyanka Rao Ruiz and Michel van den Oever, respectively.
