Research
My PhD project is on investigating Zellweger Syndrome together with Hans Waterham (AMC) as part of the SIMPATHIC consortium. Zellweger Syndrome is a peroxisome biogenesis disorder caused by mutations in one of the PEX genes, which code for peroxisome assembly proteins called peroxins. Mutations in PEX genes lead to functionally incompetent peroxisomes, which are unable to perform their metabolic duties. Our goal is to create a predictive disease model using patient cells.
