*PhD position in Neuron-Glia interactions in Alzheimer disease*
*Project description*
We are looking for a candidate for a 4 years PhD project that will be carried out at the CNCR, VU Amsterdam. Recent studies have shown that apart from neurons, glial cells play a major role in synaptic function. As yet, it is unclear to what extent glial cells are also involved in synaptic dysfunction in Alzheimer disease (AD). The overall aim of the project is to obtain insight into the role of glia cells (astrocytes and microglia) in synapse dysfunction at an early stage of AD.
The candidate will be involved in the identification of glial factors that are involved in morphological and functional defects of the synapse in AD. The studies will involve analysis of mouse models and human post mortem tissue, using transgenic, proteomic and imaging techniques. We are looking for a candidate with an interest in molecular and cellular neuroscience. Experience with any of the techniques mentioned is an advantage.
